Tips On How To Make The Renovation Process Run More Seamlessly

October 29, 2016

The thought “home renovations” – whether you plan to do them yourself or get a builder in – can be a daunting one for many reasons. There are disruptions to the home, noise and dust, rooms that can’t be used and the costs and time involved. Much of this can’t be avoided, but there are some handy tips for making the entire renovation process run more smoothly.

Avoid Dodgy Tradies

In a place with as much continuous building and expansion going on like the Gold Coast has, tradies are everywhere. It seems like just about everyone you meet works in the building trade. If you are going to get a builder to do your home renovations, then do your research and choose a good one with an established reputation. Contracting a dodgy tradie will cost you more in the long run and your home renovations process will be a nightmare.

Get Detailed Quotes

And you want your quotes in writing. Although no one can predict the future, you want your quotes to be as close as possible to what the final tally will be, within reason. Home renovations can often cost more than what you expect, so you want to keep those surprises to a minimum.

Set A Budget

As mentioned above, unforeseen circumstances can arise that may put the price of your home renovations up, but definitely start off with a budget and try and stick to it. Allow a certain amount within your budget for unplanned costs, but try not go over that figure. And be realistic in your budget. You can’t expect your humble two-bedroom house to be transformed into a prize home on a small budget.

Go for Quality

If you are going to go to the time and expense to renovate in the first place, then make sure your home renovations are quality. This goes for the builders you employ as well as the quality of the materials used. You want your renovations to last, and you want them done in a way that won’t look dated in a few years time.

Make Contingency Plans

Areas of the home are going to be affected while renovations take place. Space will become more limited for a time. Maybe now is a great time for a couple of the children to spend some time at their grandparent’s home, or maybe even go on holiday for a week or two while the builders get a good start on the home renovations. If you do go away, make sure your contactable and have someone you trust who can pop around to your home to check on the progress of the renovations while you are gone.

The more you carefully plan the entire process of your home renovations, the more seamlessly the entire operation will run.
